Glimmer Train announced a new call for submissions that offers a unique opportunity for new writers to publish their work.
The Short Story Award for New Writers is a quarterly award open to “writers whose fiction has not appeared, nor is scheduled to appear, in any print publication with a circulation over 5,000.”
Glimmer Train is one of the most respected short-story journals in print. They run various contests throughout the year, and some of their selected stories have been represented in editions of the Pushcart Prize: Best of the Small Presses, New Stories from the Midwest, The PEN/O. Henry Prize Stories, New Stories from the South, Best of the West, and Best American Short Stories.
We think this contest is definitely worth considering, even with the $15 submission fee. For a new writer, who has yet to publish their work, a publication in Glimmer Train can mean new windows of opportunity to write, and new opportunities to publish.
The upcoming deadline is February 28th, 2014.
