Spend one or several evenings learning and practicing different elements of the creative writing craft.
Pick and choose which evenings you’d like to attend this summer or buy the entire series. Each night we meet we’ll focus on a different creative writing topic as listed below. During the evening we will discuss that particular element and we will give you creative writing exercises to complete in class to practice the element we are working on that evening.
Week 1 – 6/24 – Developing Your Voice (Sorry, Sold Out)
Work toward discovering your voice through practical writing exercises. During the evening we will discuss voice and then you will work on your own voice through creative writing exercises so you can get closer to accessing your personal voice.
Week 2 – 7/01 – Setting (Sorry, sold out)
During this creative writing workshop, we will discuss setting as a narrative element and give you creative writing exercises to complete in class to practice writing an effective setting that grounds your reader in your scene.
Week 3 – 7/08 – Character Development (Sorry, sold out)
Spend an evening learning character development techniques through practical writing exercises. During the evening we will discuss these techniques and then you will work on them through creative writing exercises.
Week 4 – 7/15 – Writing Dialogue (Sorry, sold out)
Learn new ways to write more engaging dialogue and then practice these techniques through creative writing exercises you’ll work on during the evening.

Week 6 – 7/29 – Narrators (Registration closed)
Learn about different types of fiction narrators and then spend an evening experimenting with different narrators through writing exercises that you work on during the evening.
Week 7 – 8/05 – Improving Prose (Registration closed)
Spend an evening learning techniques for improving your prose through practical writing exercises that you’ll work on during the evening.
Week 8 – 8/12 – Writing Subtext (Registration closed)
Learn about the importance of subtext in a scene and how to incorporate it into your scenes, then spend the evening working on writing exercises that help you practice this important narrative element.
Week 9 – 8/19 – Free Verse Poetry (Sorry, sold out)
Learn techniques on how to improve the quality of your poetry, and spend an evening creating new free verse poetry through fun poetry prompts.
Week 10 – 8/26 – Memoir (Sorry, sold out)
Dig into your background a bit and come up with some new ideas you for your memoir through fun creative writing exercises. We’ll discuss what a memoir is exactly, and how to write scenes for a memoir.
Week 11 – 9/2 – Creating Conflict (Sorry, sold out)
“Practice writing conflict in scenes. During the evening we will discuss conflict within a scene and then practice writing conflict through creative writing exercises that you’ll work on during class.
