Sessions and Meeting Times
Our standard 8-week
writers groups run in eight week cycles with a few weeks off between each
session, allowing for four sessions per group per year. Check
our
schedule page for
places, dates, and locations. We usually meet on a weekday
evening and sometimes on Saturdays, for 2-1/2 to 3 hours per meeting.
Our meeting locations vary from session to session, but we try to have each
group in a different part of the city for easier access.
How the Groups Work
These groups, the charter groups of LAwritersgroup.com, concentrate on
improvisational writing exercises that get those creative juices flowing to
help you create new material. We also provide a safe environment to
read your work and to get critical feedback from your fellow group members
on any work in progress you chose to bring in. The focus of these
groups is creating new material.
Moderators
All
groups are moderated by writers who are skilled in providing feedback across
multiple genres, so our groups are open to all kinds of writers.
Whether you are a poet, screenwriter, memoirist, or a fiction or non-fiction
writer, you are welcome at our groups. We screen and pay
our moderators
and only hire those who have the kind of supportive passion our groups need.
Who can Join, i.e. what type of writers?
These groups are open to writers of all kinds and levels. We've had
brand new writers sitting in the same group as advanced writers. We've
had poets sitting next to comedy writers sitting next to screenwriters.
It works well for everyone, because the point is to create new work.
The moderator is there to help with feedback on works in progress, as are
your group members.
We are currently
signing people up for our writers group, so
