:: LA South Bay writers workshops: El Segundo & Hermosa Beach ::

Join a South Bay writers workshop here

Our LA South Bay area groups are our newer groups.  We currently have two groups running in the Los Angeles South Bay, one in El Segundo, and one in Hermosa Beach.  The El Segundo group is run by our owner and co-founder, Nicole Criona.   Our Hermosa Beach writers group is moderated by Lara McGlashan-Volz.

LAwritersgroup.com's writing groups are a unique combination of writers groups, creative writing workshops, and writing critique groups.  We are very excited expand into the South Bay so that folks don't have to drive out of the area to attend a creative writing workshop.

Writers of all skill levels and genres come to our groups for the constructive, supportive critique on their current writing projects in a safe environment from a qualified moderator and from fellow group members.  Our guided critique process has firm rules established by years of experience that helps keep the critique both constructive and supportive.  Critique should help elevate your writing and get you excited about the possibilities, not leave you feeling dejected and discouraged.

Our groups can reignite your passion for writing, let you connect with other writers in your area, help you create new stories through improvisational creative writing exercises designed to open up your creativity and elevate your writing.  You will generate new ideas every week through the writing prompts that also encourage you to experiment with different voices and genres.

LA South Bay Writing Workshop ModeratorNicole is current owner and co-founder of LAwritersroup.com and is a native Angelino.   She has been running writers groups and supporting writers on thier novels, screenplays, short stories, poetry, essyas and memoirs for more than nine years. She also runs the day-to-day operations of LAwritersgroup.com and moderates our LA South Bay Writers Group.  As Director of Operations and Development at a prominent screenwriting school, she worked supporting and guiding emerging screenwriters, as well as being a writer in her own right.  After managing several medium-sized independent businesses, and working as an Assistant at George Carlin's company, she decided to learn production, and produced three short films.  THE SHOOTING was her first producing project, and screened at the Austin Film Festival, IFFM in New York, Cleremont-Ferrand in France, and the Taos Talking Pictures Festival.  She went on to produce DEATH STORIES #3: THE LAST IMPRESSION, and MONSTERS! MONSTERS!  MONSTERS!  She was both Assistant to the Director and Key Research on MICHAEL & ME, a documentary released in 2005.  She wrote a popular blog where according to blogpulse.com, for a single lovely day in December 2005 her blog was 15th most popular blog in the world for a post about Craigslist. In addition to writing poetry and short story fiction, she has written articles for IG Living Magazine, and is currently a Web Copywriter and SEO Writer. She has most recently had stories published on Hissquarterly.com (Sanity is a One-Trick Pony issue), Six Sentences, and Narrative Magazine and is currently working on a novel.  Nicole attended Mount St. Mary's College as a Liberal Arts Major and took writing courses at the UCLA Writers program.

Lara McGlashan-VolzLara McGlashan-Volz is a long-time member of the LAwritersgroup.com writers groups.  She is a working freelance writer specializing in heath, fitness and nutrition. She has been working in the Los Angeles area as such for the past 12 years, and her clients include Self, Shape, Fitness, Oxygen and Marie Claire. Lara graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a double major in French and English, then went on to disappoint her parents by becoming a ski instructor for two years in the Rockies. Fortunately, she made back some brownie points when she went back to school at the University of Miami and graduated with an MFA in screenwriting and film production. She is currently working on completing her novel, a murder mystery based in the realm of health and fitness.

Most of our groups are held in private residences.  The El Segundo workhop takes place near the intersection of Grand and Whiting, in the Southwest corner of El Segundo.
